KRONOS QUARTET / FELIPE PEREZ SANTIAGO - ENCANDILADO
Sep 3rd, 2007

Why is the Kronos the coolest string quartet EVER? David Harrington, leader for the Kronos says: "I've always wanted the string quartet to be vital, and energetic, and alive, and cool, and not afraid to kick ass and be absolutely beautiful and ugly if it has to be...". That's what I'M talking about !!! AMEN DAVID!

A couple of months ago I met with the Kronos and my good friend and composer extraordinaire Felipe Perez Santiago at The Plant Studios for the recording of their second collaboration "Encandilado". Holly goodnesses... As always, Felipe wrote a piece that was as metal as metal can get for a string quartet and electronica (or any combination of instruments for that matter...). We spent 2 days making beautiful (and really ugly) noises and the piece was finished and premiered at the basilica of Saint Denis in Paris soon after. I hear the audience was on the verge of rioting (aka. Parisian moshpite') when they performed that piece. (just kidding!....) But seriously, props Kronos and props Felipe...!
